Ryan Delaney is an entertaining educator in action. He has led the Quality Tools movement in Ohio and changed the way more than 10,000
teachers and administrators come to work and make a difference in the lives of children every day. Although the Quality movement has roots in the Baldridge model, Quality Improvement is not Baldridge, and it is not just a new flavor of the day. Quality Tools work to impact student engagement, increase student achievement, improve school climate, and increase parent/community involvement. Utilizing QT, school districts have made dramatic, meaningful and data-verifiable changes in less than one year. QT is equally effective in low income, high mobility districts, as well as in schools all along the continuum. QT is utilized in classrooms, staff meetings, parent-conferences, administrative meetings, and throughout the school community.

Ryan Delaney and Jerry Marshall, current administrators themselves, normally present with a team of additional practitioners, including administrators, regular education teachers, and special education teachers. These powerful teams provide incredibly well received and effective professional development programs. Teacherbuy-in is high due to the practical, practitioner driven approach. No one leaves a Quality workshop without numerous ideas for improvement, both personally and professionally. At the NAPSA conference, Ryan and Jerry provided attendees with a ‘tip of the Quality iceberg,’ but left most of us inspired and hopeful about the powerful changes we can make in the lives of children with a few simple tools. Although Ryan’s approach may have been a bit too entertaining for some of our conservative or traditional educators, his data cannot be ignored. These techniques work. In Quality schools, achievement test scores skyrocket; students know WHY they are in the classroom; students have a clear sense of direction and academic status; parents are engaged as partners; teachers are empowered; discipline improves; and the climate of excitement and fun undoubtedly makes Quality schools a better place to be. This workshop and the Quality Tools movement will move districts forward and positively effect the lives of children.
