Title: Director of Pupil Personnel Services
What is the most rewarding aspect of your work?
There were many rewarding aspects of the work in this field, but the opportunity to collaborate with other educators, parents and community leaders to develop policies, procedures and resources to enhance student well-being was most gratifying. In these forums, my understanding and respect for the roles entrusted to each person was enlarged. As new challenges arose in the public education environment, it was helpful to have an awareness of which collaborators could contribute the skills needed to address the current issue. The field of pupil services always provided ample opportunities for professional growth.
What is the greatest benefit of being a NAPSA member?
NAPSA has been a long-standing organization for professional resources to advocate for best practices for students and families to enhance academic, personal-social well-being as well as mental health needs. It has also been a tremendous venue for sharing professional ideas with others in the field of pupil services. The support from colleagues has been most helpful in addressing the challenges in public education which all of us have experienced. I would recommend to any professional in the field the active participation in NAPSA and her state affiliates.
